The Cage of Blessing                               [return to devotional list]

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time He may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you” (1Pet.5-6).

A couple of weeks ago the Lord gave me a vision of myself sitting in a cage. I was so restless trying my best to get out of this cage. I had so much energy that had to be released and therefore I could not be still. It got to a point where I was moving around so much that I got too tired to move at all. Once I was calm the cage opened and I was let out.

The cage was symbolic for all our circumstances that limit us from accomplishing all that we think should be accomplished. The energy I had was self-generated and immature confidence when it should have been selfless, mature “Godfidence”. It was pride trying to get out and take over the world. The Lord said that if the cage were to be opened prematurely I would not be ready for the next thing and I would act on emotion. He wanted me to be still and humble myself under His mighty hand until the proper time.

Many of us say “I’m ready, let me go” or “I can preach before the multitudes.” Unfortunately we have not yet humbled ourselves to the point of death. You see anxiety can take the shape of fear, worry, stress or an unhealthy curiosity about the future. Do find yourself wondering about your future? Do you find that you silently question the authority in your life? Are you always anxious?

If so then you must remain in the cage by faith until the appropriate time. The cage is not a prison, it’s a place of training and humility so that when the proper time comes you will know what it’s like to be under the mighty Hand of God. If you are doing the things “you think” you should be doing then it’s not time yet!! You still need to be humbled a little bit more until the proper time comes!

P.S. Stay faithful in the “cage” of blessing.
